Barça put one foot in the door to the UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals after taking a commanding 4-1 lead against Roma in the first leg of their Quarter-Finals clash against Roma. Roma were undone after scoring two own goals followed by goals from Piqué and Luis Suárez.
It was a close battle between the two sides at the Camp Nou until the Blaugrana took lead courtesy of a Daniele De Rossi own-goal in the 38th minute after he diverted Iniesta’s pass into his own goal for the only goal of the first half. The second half would not see a change in luck for Roma as they could only watch as the ball deflected off of Manolas for the second own goal of the match in the 55th minute. Piqué tapped in a third to finish off a counter attack four minutes later to make it 3-1. Džeko managed to deny ter Stegen a clean as managed to pull one back for Roma in the 80th minute. However, Suárez finally ended his European drought this season to restore the Blaugran’s three goal three minutes from time with an acrobatic volley for his first goal of the campaign. The next leg will be played on Tuesday in Roma but Barça have to shift their attention to visiting Leganese this Saturday as they continue their unbeaten run in the Spanish League.
