Lionel Messi scored another hat-trick as FC Barcelona defeated beat Leganés 3-1, courtesy of Messi hat trick, at the Camp Nou to match the 38 games unbeaten domestic league run which was set by Real Sociedad’s across the 1978-1979 and 1979-1980 season. Only seven games remain till the season is over where they control their destiny and attempt a run going unbeaten during the entire season.
Messi kicked off his memorable with an unforgettable free kick goal in the 27th minute to give the Blaugrana the leader. He then scored his second fives minutes later for the last goal of the first half. Barça played lethargically in the second half and paid the price as Nabil El Zhar managed to pull one back for the visitors in the 68th minute. However, Messi notched his hat trick three minutes from time to guarantee the three points for his side.
With the Madrid derby playing to a 1-1 draw, the Blaugrana now enjoy an 11 point lead atop of the standing. Next up for the Blaugrana will be Valencia who will be paying a visit to the Camp Nou next weekend. However, they now have to shift their attention to European football when they travel to Italy to face Roma in the return leg of their Champions League tie with Roma.
