Barça played to a 2-2 draw away to Celta Vigo and extended their unbeaten league run to 40 matches without suffering a defeat. Barça manager Ernesto Valverde opted to rest his starters with a lineup full of backups to face Celta Vigo what with the Copa del Rey Final against Sevilla being only a few days away.
Barça took the lead in the 36th minute after Philippe Coutinho intercepted the ball in Celta Vigo’s half and passed the ball to Alcacer whose sublime one touch pass was perfect for Dembélé who volleyed a powerful shot at the edge of the box for his first league goal of the season. Unfortunately, Barça could not escape the half with a lead as Celta Vigo equalized before the break through Jonny.
The Blaugrana retook the lead after the introduction of Messi and Sergi Roberto at the hour mark. Four minutes later, Paulinho scored from close range and it seemed that this lead and result would be enough. However, Barça were forced to play the final 19 minutes with 10 men after Sergi Roberto was sent off after pulling down Iago Aspas during a counter attack and since he was the last defender, he saw red. Celta Vigo would grab the equalizer eight minutes from the final whistle courtesy of Iago Aspas. Barça though managed to hang on and not concede another goal. This result meant the Blaugrana extended their record breaking unbeaten league run to 40 matches. The league crown is on the horizon but the Blaugrana will now have to get ready for Saturday’s Copa del Rey Final against Sevilla in the Spanish capital.
