FC Barcelona ended their US preseason tour, and their participation in the International Champions Cup, with a 1-0 loss to Milan. Although the Blaugrana were in control the entire match, the Rossoneri scored deep in stoppage time to snatch a late victory.
FC Barcelona participated in their final match as part of their involvement of the in the International Champions Cup by traveling to California to face Milan. Ernesto Valverde’s lineup saw all three new signings start again; Cillessen, Semedo, Marlon, Lenglet, Miranda, Rafinha, Sergi Roberto, Arthur, Alcacer, Munir and Malcom. The second half saw usual starter Marc-André ter Stegen make his preseason debut when he came in for Jasper Cillessen after the break.
Although Barça enjoyed the majority of possession, Milan’s goalkeeper Donnarumma kept the match scoreless with his alertness and saves. The likes of Munir, Malcom, Lenglet, Arthur, and Abel Ruiz all had attempts on goal thwarted by the young goalkeeper. It seemed that the match was heading to a shootout until Milan scored a late winner courtesy of André Silva’s left footed shot from close range to the bottom left corner. Although the result was a minor disappointment, the positives were the impressive performances by the new signings Arthur, Malcom and Lenglet along with starlet’s Riqui Puig’s remarkable performance that even earned praise from Milan’s manager Gennaro Gattuso.
The Blaugrana will next face Sevilla in the Spanish Supercopa on August 12 in Morocco. They will then host Boca Juniors three days later at the Camp Nou before La Liga kicks off on August 18 when our beloved Blaugrana host Alaves at the Camp Nou.
