The outcome was decided in the second half when Dembélé scored a magnificent to give the Blaugrana the lead. Sevilla had a golden chance to equalizer in the dying moments of the game when they were awarded a penalty. The Blaugrana’s starting eleven consisted of new faces playing with key starters for the first time; Ter Stegen, Semedo, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba, Busquets, Rafinha, Arthur, Messi, Dembélé y and Luis Suárez. Sevilla came into this game intent on playing on the break from the off and their plan was working after scoring in the 9th minute from a counter attack that saw Muriel nutmeg new signing Lenglet and the ball fell to Sarabia who did not waste this golden chance and gave his side the lead.

Sevilla played the rest of the half conservatively and paid the price when just a a minute before the break, Messi was fouled just outside the box. He proceeded to blast his free kick over the ball and the ball bounced off the post and  Vaclik’s leg before Piqué pounced on the rebound to make it 1-1.  The winner with come in the 77th minute of the second half after Dembélé took Messi and calmly dribbled before blasting a superb effort from outside the box  that crashed off the underside of the bar and into the goal. Just as it seemed the Blaugrana were heading for a sure victory, Sevilla were awarded a penalty in the final moments of the game after the referee Carlos del Cerro Grande ruled that Ter Stegen had brought down former Blaugrana player, Aleix Vidal. Ter Stegen, who was not pleased with the call, guessed correct by diving to his left and saving substitute Ben Yedder’s penalty. 4 minutes of stoppage time later, the final whistle blew and the Blaugrana celebrated their first trophy of the 2018-2019 season.
