FC Barcelona ended their run of matches without a win to three after their 1-0 victory over Valladolid at the Camp Nou. With Tuesday’s Champions League Round of 16 clash against Lyon ahead, Barça seemed to lack focus in a disappointing performance against Valladolid. Nonetheless, the Blaugrana managed to break down a stubborn Valladolid side, when Lionel Messi converted a penalty just before half-time. The margin of victory would have been had it not been for the performance Valladolid’s goalkeeper Jordi Masip, a former La Masia alum, who pulled off some fine saves to prevent Barça from adding to their lead, which included stopping Messi’s second penalty attempt. This result meant that Barça were seven points clear of Atletico Madrid, but they now must shift their attention to Tuesday’s Champions League match against Lyon in France.
