FC Barcelona captured their 26th league title today after Messi came off the bench in the second half and scored the lone goal in their 1-0 victory over Levante. This was the Blaugrana’s eighth La Liga title in the past 11 seasons. Messi had started the game on the bench but he entered the game for the start of the second half by replacing Coutinho. Levante had frustrated Barça throughout the game but Messi ensured that Barça would be victorious and retain the league title. In the 62nd minute, Suárez ‘s shot from inside the box was blocked and the ball was controlled by Arturo Vidal’s header before finding Messi inside the box who then proceeded to display that uncanny skill of controlling the ball with one touch with his left foot before blasting a shot past Levante’s keeper Fernández. This was Messi’s 34th league goal and allowed Barça to clinch the league title at the Camp Nou for the first time since 2010 with Messi lifting the league trophy for the first time as club captain. The Blaugrana remain on course for the treble and with the league now wrapped up, they will shift their attention to the Champions League when they host Liverpool on Wednesday for the first leg of their Semi-Finals clash.
