FC Barcelona presented Frenkie De Jong as a Barça player in which he signed his contract with the club, wore the club shirt, and stepped on the Camp Nou pitch in front of 19,850 Blaugrana faithful who gathered to see the club’s new signing. The 20th Dutch player to sign for FC Barcelona signed a deal that will keep him at the club for the next five seasons. He was also presented with his Barcelona shirt which had ‘F. De Jong’ on the back.
De Jong is the first of two signings by the club this summer. Barça had already agreed with Valencia over the transfer of Brazilian goalkeeper Norberto Murara ‘Neto’. The transfer fee was reported to be €26m plus €9m in bonuses. He will be the backup to Marc-André ter Stegen.
The reason why Barça signed Neto was because Jasper Cillessen was sold to Valencia. Valencia will pay Barça €35m for the Dutch goalkeeper, who has decided after three seasons, to leave the club. Cillessen had served as Marc-André ter Stegen’s backup and featured as the starter in Barça’s Copa del Rey competition, winning two Copas in his two seasons.
Another FC Barcelona player leaving the club is Portuguese footballer André Gomes who was sold to Everton F.C. Gomes had spent this past season on loan with the Premiership club. Everton will pay the Blaugrana €25m with bonuses for Gomes.
